Empathy

Definition - The ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

Meet Empathy. Considered a key element to a person’s emotional intelligence, Empathy helps us to develop the ability to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes and imagine how they are feeling or understand what they are experiencing. Empathy is an important skill and it helps greatly when we support others.

The doctor will show empathy to help care for their patients, to let them know that there is an understanding about how they feel. It helps build relationships.

Like doctors, vicars and those in the church often help people in times of need, as well as during times of joy. The skill of empathy helps them relate to those around them.
