Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Our Engaging, Enabling Environment

At St Jude’s, our Reception isn’t just a classroom; it’s a portal to wonder designed through the eyes of the child. Following the visionary approach of Greg Bottrill, we’ve traded traditional "areas" for immersive landscapes of imagination.

In Number Land, mathematics becomes a lived story of patterns and discovery, while Adventure Island transforms construction into a daring quest of engineering and story telling. By listening to the "Drawing Club" of their minds, we ensure our environment evolves alongside child interests and seasonal topics.

Embracing the Hygge philosophy, we’ve curated a calm, natural aesthetic. Gone is the overstimulating neon of old; in its place are soft textures, foliage, and neutral tones that allow the children’s vibrant ideas to take center stage. This serene backdrop provides the emotional safety our children need to take risks. It is an enabling space where magic is captured, curiosity is celebrated, and every child feels truly seen.
